Drifting is a high-skill, high-powered motor sport that calls for drivers to control a 200hp to 850hp car while it slides sideways at high speed through a marked course. It is a similar to rally racing, but is done on a closed course and judged on execution and style rather than who finishes the course fastest. Drifting takes all the thrilling moments of traditional motor sports and packs it together into non-stop competition.

In its debut, TANAKA RACING shocked the Drifting fraternity with the highest-ever finish - 4th place at Sonoma - for a rookie team. In 2008 and 2009, TANAKA RACING logged two top-five finishes and , but for mechanical woes at several other venues was, consistently, a force to be reckoned with.
